Snappcar: share your car to care for the environment

Cars account for the biggest share of CO2 emissions by transportation. Thus, it would be fair to say that cars are not very friendly for our environment. Additionally, the average car goes unused for 23 hours every day, which is a waste of scarce resources. So what can we do to make driving more eco-friendly? Utrecht-based company SnappCar has found a sustainable solution to reduce CO2 emissions amongst car users that comes with a very ambitious goal: 1% fewer cars in Europe by 2020.

SnappCar was founded in Utrecht in 2011 and started out as a small-scale start-up. By 2017, the start-up has developed into the second largest car-sharing platform in Europe, with offices in Utrecht, Sweden and Denmark.

The idea is simple: whenever you are not using your car, someone else can rent it through the online platform. This has not only resulted in an increase in the number of car sharers, but also in the number of cars that are being shared. This means that more cars are being shared, which is not only social; it is also very environmental friendly. A nice bonus for car owners who decide to share their car on SnappCar is that it allows them to earn some extra money. So in this case, sharing your car is definitely a good way of caring for the environment; sharing = caring.
